Resource

The ‘Evidence Network’ provides information on resources in social and public policy, access to literature on evidence-based policy and practice, and information on how to become an Evidence Network Associate.

Provision of Teaching Datasets and Workshops for Lecturers based on British Cohort Studies

Resource

Teaching datasets for use in undergraduate and postgraduate quantitative methods programmes. They contain data and documentation from British Birth Cohort Studies, with accompanying teaching resources, exercises and reading lists.

RDI Project 6

Linking International Micro and Macro Data

Resource An interactive training resource that shows how to combine socio-economic data from country-level aggregate databanks (macro data) with individual-level survey datasets (micro data). There are five units, designed as self guided learning resources for undergraduates, though they may also be of interest to postgraduates. Each unit contains online tutorials, activities, study guides and videos.

Resource

Information on methods for handling missing data in quantitative datasets, including introductory guidance, FAQs, example analyses, links to further resources, and a bibliography. Also software for multilevel multiple imputation.

Building Management Research Capacity: Training Researchers as Trainers

Resource

Study skills teaching materials on the logic of enquiry that frames the research process and production of outputs. The materials are designed for self-study by postgraduate and doctoral students in the field of business and management. They include downloadable forms for diagnostic activities and exercises. There is also guidance for tutors with ideas on how they might use these materials with their students.

Resource

A substantial learning resource for the use of online questionnaires and interviews, which also covers ethical issues. The site contains self-study materials and information on key texts and journals, with links to further resources for learners and tutors.

Writing Across Boundaries: Explorations in Research, Writing and Rhetoric in Qualitative Research

Resource

This resource contains information on writing up qualitative data. It contains downloadable texts organised under three themes - narrative, rhetoric and representation; drafting and plotting; and the data-theory relationship. There are also writing tips, a bibliography, and links to further resources.

Training Researchers on Ethics and Ethical Practice in Social Science Research

Resource

A wide-ranging resource for learning about the processes and practices involved in undertaking ethically sound research. Core issues such as anonymity and confidentiality are addressed through a series of topics, including ethical review processes, and ethics and web-based research. The site contains instructional web pages, case studies, links to further resources and bibliographies. It is designed for new researchers – from undergraduates to early career professionals.

The Ethics 'Guidebook': An Online Training Resource and Practical Guide to Ethics Processes and Procedures for Social Research

Resource

The Research Ethics Guidebook is a free resource, addressing ethics throughout the research process, and – in particular – aiming to help you find your way through the variety of regulatory processes and procedures that can apply to social science research – from grant applications to ethics review and research governance processes, and beyond. The Guidebook is intended for early career researchers, including doctoral students, but it also offers a useful resource for those who train, supervise and support other researchers.
